Current Controversies
The current controversies on the Amendment include the issues of the length of delay for a speedy trial, for many innocent people could spend time in jail and have to wait a long time until their court day or date of the trial, what would happen in the case if the accused person, or the attorney for that person was sick, missing, or dead on the day of the trial. However the most important and disputed right in the 6th Amendment, is the one that gives the right to a fair trial. There are numerous problems with the principle of fair. The jury could have already heard of the case through media and developed thoughts and biases towards on side or the other, witnesses could give false evidence when being questioned and later change the story or the events thought to have happened to shift the case in favor of one side. Worst of all biased judges and jurors could be extremely unfair towards one side and decide incorrectly on the just decision.

Over time, rights of the accused have definitely expanded from no rights at all and no argument to protest for your side to a large number of things one can do to get themselves out of trouble when the truth is that they are innocent or guilty. Nowadays, people can hire a good lawyer to argue for them in their court cases allowing the tables to turn at any time. The Amendments helped this develop to create a mostly fair justice system in the United States of America. In addition punishments are not so severe and fit the crime and there are many ways to free a person from jail and help those who are innocent.
